Please make sure you follow the steps below to keep your windows safe if you wish to continue travelling with your caravan. The method described below utilises easily obtainable packaging tapes to secure the laminated plastic layers of the window pane to reduce the risk of delamination occurring. You will need suitable multipurpose tape - such as Norton Bear cloth tape or standard or heavy-duty clear packaging tape available from Bunnings, Officeworks etc.
Step 1
Tape over the lower edge of the window pane allowing suitable hangover of tape width to seal against the inner and the outer of the window pane then press against both sides of the pane.
Step 2
Tape over both side edges of the window pane allowing suitable hangover of tape width to seal against the inner and the outer of the window pane.
Step 3
Press the tape and run your hand along the length of the tape on the 3 edges to ensure the adhesion is good.
The pane should now be safe for you to tow the caravan until you get the panes replaced, however, please make sure that the window latches are fastened securely and that you have checked the integrity of the taping prior to each towing.
Note, if using tools/ladders etc, please use safe practices when making the windows safe and if you are not confident in doing it please ask a neighbour or friend for assistance.
